EMCHD 2024 - Satellite Symposium | Sep 2, 2024

C3 and C5 pathways as drivers and targets in inflammatory diseases – from bench to beside

Greeting

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to the EMCHD 2024 Satellite Symposium, which will focus on the central role of C3 and C5 pathways as drivers and targets in inflammatory diseases - from bench to bedside. This symposium will feature a line-up of distinguished lecturers from industry, basic science as well as clinicians, who will provide their perspective regarding the role of C3, C5 and their cleavage products as targets in inflammatory diseases.

The symposium will begin with ‚Introductory Lectures‘ on C3 targeting by Christoph Schmidt (Ulm; GER), C5 inhibition by Trent Woodruff (St. Lucia; AUS) and intracellular complement targeting by Daniel Ricklin (Basel; CH).

After setting the stage for the topic, the next session will focus on the clinical perspective of targeting C3 and/or C5 pathways with presentations by Jens Panse (Aachen; GER), Friedmann Paul (Berlin; GER) and Peter Lamprecht (Lübeck, GER). This session will explore the clinical applications of targeting C3 and C5 pathways in different rare diseases including Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH), Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD) and Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis.

In addition to the clinical perspective, Peter Hillmen (Swedish Orphan Biovitrum GmbH; GER),  and Apellis Pharmaceutical, USA), Christoph Gasteyger (Alexion / AstraZeneca; USA) and Niels Riedemann (InflaRx GmbH; GER) will provide insights into their initiatives and approaches to targeting C3, C5 or C5aR1 pathways.

The event will conclude with a panel discussion, in which the speakers from the three sessions will talk about the current therapeutic options in the field and future perspectives. Attendants are encouraged to add to the discussion and interact with the speakers.

Registration for this symposium is included in the registration fee of EMCDH2024. It is also possible to register exclusively for the satellite symposium. The registration fee will be €50.

The local organizing committee is in contact with the State Chamber of Physicians SH to recognize this event as a training measure (8 CME Points) according to §4 of the Professional Code of Conduct.

Join us to expand your knowledge, engage in stimulating discussions and network with leaders in the field. We are very much looking forward to your presence and active participation in this event.

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Christian Karsten
